cozy family room reading nook

I have this empty little spot in the corner of our family room that our 9′ tall Christmas tree fits comfortably but for the other 11 months it sits empty… until today! I love to sit and read or chat on the phone with my sisters on this particular chair in our family room so I pulled it into the corner and it fit pretty well, whew!
So now I had a chair and nothing else. Ha! I headed to Walmart to remedy that and left with a cart full of goodies to warm this space up and created a cozy reading nook in my family room in just a few hours.
I walk by constantly and smile because this little makeover makes the whole room more welcoming and is packed with a few of my favorite things (comfortable throw, good book, fresh flowers, gather wood cut out, and cute mug,)…
…I’ve got to remind myself it’s a treat to enjoy after chores are done. 😉 Haha!
I started with a throw I already had but added some pops of metallic gold & copper in the throw pillows. The Better Homes and Gardens Live Better line at Walmart has a huge variety of pillows and they’re on trend and great quality. I may have purchased 4 this week alone… 😉
A good smell can really set the tone for a cozy reading session so I paired some fresh flowers (tulips at my Walmart were under $5, score!) with the Better Homes and Gardens warmer + my favorite scent of all time, the Better Homes and Gardens Line-Dried Linen. Mmm.
A cute HELLO mug from the kitchen department and a watercolor painting from my friend Angie at Yellow Bungalow Shop in the rustic Better Homes and Gardens picture frame helps set the tone as well.
Can we just talk about that Better Homes and Gardens floor lamp?
I was scared to assemble it for a quick second but realized it was just tightening a few screws and clipping the drum shade on; it’s a great height and I can swing it around where I want the light to be, plus it gives off a warm glow come nightfall.
I like to read and have my toes play in the throw or on my shag rug; my 1-year old kept toddling over and laying on the Better Homes and Gardens rugs, they are seriously so comfy!
Yes those are our DIY Farmhouse Chic Dining Room Shelves we shared a few months ago that are also decked out in the Better Homes and Gardens kitchenware, (scroll to the bottom to see more!) I love to mix my shelves up for the holidays and add pops of color throughout the space!

I love it! It looks so comfy and warm 🙂
Lighting and seating are so important for a reading nook. Oh– and then, you must have a place to set down your cup of coffee or your glass of wine. Your reading nook has it all! Very nice.
Thanks so much, Mimi!! XO
