This wreath has been pinned more than 2.2 million times in 3 months, woah! You all LOVE this wreath as much as we do! THANK YOU for the support!
Apparently we were WAY ahead of the trend when we featured a wooden bead wreath back in 2011! All things old become become new at some point which is why we’re seeing these wood bead wreaths all over Pinterest again… and they’re gaining popularity by the day!
Wooden Bead Floral Wreath
There are a couple of ways to make them but we’ve scoured Amazon and the big craft stores to find the best prices aaaaand have researched durability at the same time.
We originally saw this gorgeous wood bead floral wreath from our pal Peony & Honey. Luckily for us, her and a friend made a Christmas version so we were able to get the step by step to make a gorgeous wood bead wreath.
Since the 2″ round wood beads are super pricey, we decided to use the 2″ split wood balls instead. We found a 16 pack for $13.99 on Amazon which makes them $0.87/each versus the 2″ doll head beads in hobby stores for about $1.50/each.
That doesn’t sound like much but when you’re using 13+ beads per wreath, it adds up! You can definitely use smaller beads to save money but we love the look of the chunky beads, personally. Check out our wreath pin board for a variety of ideas.
Supplies to Make a Wood Bead Floral Wreath
- 16″ Wood Wreath Form (be sure to use your 40% off coupon if it’s not already on sale!)
- 2″ Split Wood Balls: use code LOLLYJANE to save 10%!! You’ll need 2 packs of 10 to cover a 16″ wood wreath form.) We love supporting small shops before big box stores 🙂
- Assortment of Faux Flowers, a Bouquet and a Berry Stem
- Hot Glue and Gun UPDATE: We recommend Elmer’s Advance ProBond Glue. It’s weatherproof so the beads won’t pop off like hot glue!
- Floral Wire (You can also use hot glue but I will likely swap my flowers seasonally so I’m keeping this option open for easy removal.)
- Command Strips (For hanging: you can place the beads in between the metal hook.)
***UPDATE ON WOOD BEADS: Our original source on Amazon keeps selling out. This Etsy shop kindly offered a 10% discount to our readers so use code LOLLYJANE at check out, her shop has great reviews! There are more sources in the comments that you have found, thank you all for researching!
Other supplies/ways to create this wreath:
- You can use a metal hoop instead of the flat wreath we used. If using a metal hoop, you’re able to simply string the beads through it. You’ll need to snip the hoop first to get the beads on, then glue the cut piece back together. Be sure your beads holes are the same width so they’ll be able to slide on easily. You can always drill a bigger hole, if needs be.
- If you choose this method, you can glue the flowers directly to the beads or save on beads and follow Peony’s how-to. She glued a foam backing to one side of the hoop then stabbed the flowers on the front side to hide the foam. You could also use a piece of cardboard, in place of foam, then glue directly to the cardboard.
- If you use a metal hoop and full size 2″ balls, you could drill through the 2″ wood balls then wrap your florals & greens around the wreath and skip hot glue altogether for this step. Lots of options 🙂
How to make a wood bead floral wreath
Making this wood bead floral wreath is so easy, here’s the easy steps that should only take you half hour (or less!) Hot glue 16 beads onto your wreath form:
Aaaah look at that immediate progress, love it already!
Wrap wrap wrap! Take floral stems apart and wrap with wire, trim with wire snips. Tightly wrap leaves around wreath form first. *Note: you could glue your florals and greens for a permanent option but since the beads were a little pricey, we thought it would be frugal to wrap them so you could swap it out for the holidays.
Wrap largest faux flowers around leaves next then tuck smaller flowers around larger florals and wrap securely.
If there’s any gaps, tuck more greenery in then wrap with floral wire securely until it’s to your liking.
how to hang a wood bead floral wreath
I hung my wreath from my command strips. I simply set the wreath on top of it, in between 2 beads. I used the metal command hooks for this reason, to get a tight fit. No moving when the door is being slammed by kids all day long. ?
You can also screw cup hooks into your door then hang the wreath with ribbon or clear fishing line.

Can this beaded with the pre-made wooden beaded wreaths from Hobby Lobby? Or do they need to be flat for a specific reason?
Yes of course! Hobby Lobby just released their pre-made line, it wasn’t available when we created this wreath. For sure a time saver 🙂
Can anyone tell me where you got the wreath form and where i can get it cheaply? Wanting to do this for a craft at our women’s conference but have to keep the $ down. Any help would be appreciated
Hi Tina! Sounds like a fun crafting time! We used our 40% off coupon from Michaels so it prices out to just under $6/each, not sure if you can buy in bulk… I bet your local hobby shop could work with you. 🙂 Happy making!
Also we just saw Hobby Lobby now sells pre-made wreath forms in 14″ or 18″: https://www.hobbylobby.com/Crafts-Hobbies/Painting-Surfaces/Wood/Wood-Bead-Wreath—14%22/p/81020896
My wooden ball halves keep popping off the wooden frame I used. I used hot glue designed for wood, according to the package. Any recommendations?
Hi Debra! We haven’t had that feedback, I imagine weather would factor into the cause. This glue is our favorite for added security: https://amzn.to/2Ykpo9x Good luck! XO
I had the split balls from the Etsy store in my shopping cart, but it looks like they raised the price just a day or two later, bummer! After reading all of the other suggestions the craft parts balls are the most affordable option even after 10% off at the Etsy store including the shipping too. I have purchased all of my supplies and cannot wait to share the finished product!
Glad you found some at a good price! SO excited for you to make the wreaths! XO
They are cheaper at Craftparts even after the 10% discount from the Etsy store.
I also bought the glue they recommend and saved around $9.00 as opposed to buying the glue from Amazon and the split balls from Etsy.
Thanks for chiming in, great savings! xo
I checked Woodpecker crafts and the wood, half circles are over $1.00 each if you buy 10+. How did you find them for .35 each?
A reader found them on Woodpeckers Crafts at that price but we haven’t been able to verify that link OR them that cheap UNLESS they’re on sale at Hobby Lobby and I think they’re still just under $1/each. Our cheapest source was on Amazon (link in the post) but they are OOS currently. The next more affordable option is also in the post at CraftParts.com and you buy (2) 10 packs for $16. We would love to know if you find a cheaper source! Thanks!
Someone posted yesterday about the 2” split balls being 35 cents each at woodpeckers crafts. I can’t find them…help!! Lol
We got you, girl! xo

Woodpeckerscrafts.com has the split 2” balls for 35 cents each! 20 balls for $7.00
Thank you for a great resource, Courtney!! 😀
Hi! Just wondering if your “sealed” the wood balls with anything before hanging outside? We live in sunny, humid Florida and I’m thinking they may grow moldy eventually. Absolutely love this wreath, can’t wait to make it! Thanks for all the pro tips for making it at home and affordable 🙂
Hi Alison!
You can use any sealer..here are 3 we recommend 🙂
polyurethane: This oil based sealer is great to use over an oil based stain. It does have a tendency to yellow the paint a bit which makes it ideal for warm colors and rustic looking signs.
polycrylic: This water based sealer works best over water based stain and any kind of paint. I like the satin finish and use this on most of my painted outdoor pieces.
spray sealer: this product comes in a variety of finishes and you can find it water or oil based. I like to use this type for large outdoor products that are hard to cover with a brush.
The wreath is gorgeous and I hope to make one soon for a nursery. I also noticed the wallpaper in the background. Can you provide details as to where the wallpaper was purchased? Thank you.
Hi Tina! Thanks so much, you can see the room here: https://lollyjane.com/pink-board-and-batten-wall
The wallpaper is from Anewall: https://anewall.com/products/blush-floral-mural

Where can I buy the split wooden beads
Amazon has them but they keep selling out. Courtney found them here: https://woodpeckerscrafts.com/2-split-wood-ball Happy crafting! XO
Love the wreath thanks for sharing Lillian
Thank you so much, Lillian! OX
Lovely design for wooden ball wreath! But what happens when it rains?
I imagine you could paint the wooden balls with acrylic or something water-resistant and spray the flowers with ScotchGuard. Would that work to keep the wreath looking good for a season?
We think that would be a great idea, Diane!! Our porch is covered year round but that’s a great idea to scotchguard it 🙂
When you glue the balls down do you start at the middle of the wrearh?
Thanks.
Jodee
Hi Jodee, that’s correct!
Found these decently priced 2″ split balls – https://www.craftparts.com/product/2-split-balls/
Great tutorial!
AWESOME thank you so much Kelly!!! Just updated the post. We appreciate you sharing your find! 🙂
Hi! Just curious, are you able to give a little more detail on how you take apart the floral stem?
Hi Jess, of course– we just pull the floral stems apart (separating each individual stem within the bouquet) and snip at the bottom with our wire cutters. From there we can trim them as needed to fit within the wreath. 🙂
Hi
Love this wreath. I have a question about the wood beads you use. Are your beads the beads you have linked to on Amazon? The beads on Amazon are 1.5 in. and yours are listed as 2 in. I want to make sure before I purchase. Thank you.
Hi BJ, thank you for catching that– it looks like the 2″ split wood beads we used are out of stock and the listing is automatically redirecting to the next closest size. We’ve updated the post to reflect that, thanks for bringing that to our attention! 🙂
Hi BJ, the 2″ beads are back in stock– yay! https://amzn.to/398wnVO
The 16 inch wood wreath form is available on Michael’s website for purchase online or pick up in store. https://www.michaels.com/wreath-ring-by-ashland/10558115.html
Awesome thank you for the link!! 🙂
Hobby Lobby does sell two 2″ round wood beads with the hole in a package for 2.49, they regularly go on sale for half price, making them about .60 each. Really easy to string on the wire hoop, if you wire the flowers on you can easily change out the flowers seasonally.
Awesome tips, thank you so much Julie! 🙂
Your version is absolutely beautiful. I can’t stop looking at it! Where did you get your pink berries?! I must have them!
Haha thanks Sammy! I found them at Hobby Lobby 🙂
Beautiful! And using the half-beads is brilliant! I can’t wait to make my own.
Aaah thanks so much, Jeanne! This is my favorite wreath so far 🙂
XO
I love the wreaths. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks so much, Rebecca! 🙂 Happy DIYing!

Love the simplicity of the wreath……gonna make one
Where did you get the leaves? Beautiful and easy! Thanks
Hi Tana! Thank you so much, these were simply snipped from a floral bunch taken apart but we use these pretty eucalyptus leaves often on wreath making, too:

Happy DIYing! 🙂

Where did you get the 16” wreath form that you used? Was it at Michaels as well? Just can’t find it online?
Hi Jenmie! Yes, I found mine at Michaels (be sure to use your 40% off coupon!) but have seen that same brand at JoAnn/HL. The smaller 12″ one is available online: https://amzn.to/2O7hXN8
Thanks, happy DIYing!
