diy vintage door chalkboard

Hey friends! So happy to be stopping by again from Making it in the Mountains, where I blog about our journey to renovate our first fixer upper to create the {farmhouse} of our dreams! Last month I chatted all about my dreams for my very own creative space and how hard we’d been working to make it all come to life. We’ve been slowly plugging away at things all summer long and, I can’t tell you how excited I am to finally be seeing it all come together (you can check out our progress so far here)! Though progress has been so sloooooow, I’ve been doing my best to keep everyone up to date with all sorts of behind the scenes sneak peeks on Instagram. And friends, it makes me SO happy to say that I’ll be sharing the full reveal of my farmhouse style office space this Friday over on Making it in the Mountains – I’d LOVE for y’all to pop on over to check it out!

Farmhouse office makeover ideas! Love this simple office decor.

With fall rolling in, this office space isn’t the only thing I’m trying to get finished up … we’ve been working hard at all sorts of outdoor projects to really up the character and curb appeal of our home. I made this easy DIY Vintage Door Chalkboard to add to the appeal, I’m going to walk you through the whole process below.

It may not be much to look at right now, but friends, I’m telling you there’s so much potential here!

Farmhouse porch decor ideas!

With a few projects way too many projects on the go now, it’s so exciting seeing all that potential finally taking shape! My very favourite part so far would have to be our new front porch – I mean really, what’s a farmhouse without a charming front porch space! We’ve put together some beautiful design plans and I cannot wait to see how it all comes together in the end! So far, the concrete has been poured, the new barn style lights are up and now we’re just waiting on some cozy new furniture and fun fall accessories to arrive so I decorate it all!

No matter which space I’m working on, I absolutely love to mix all sorts of charming vintage finds with a few newer pieces for that gathered, farmhouse look! Last Summer we made this lovely window box from an old vintage window,

And then of course, we completely ignored this space until just a few weeks ago (whoops!), but, when I came across this old door, I just couldn’t resist bringing it home with me to add to our front porch space.

I definitely could have left it as is and it would have looked super cute! But, I’ve always wanted to have a giant chalkboard outside – I knew this was my chance! I used a paint scraper to remove the old sticker from the window and, after a really good wipe down, I gave that old window a quick coat of primer and a couple of coats of regular old chalkboard paint.

Painting that old window was seriously THE EASIEST way to make a simple and sweet chalkboard with all sorts of charm and character! Now, the most important part of creating your own chalkboard is “seasoning” it, which basically just means rubbing a piece of chalk all over it and then wiping it clean. This ensures that it’s all ready to go and is just as easy to erase as it is to write on.

Finally it was time to have a bit of fun with things! After searching Pinterest for some inspiration, I added a lovely little Fall message to my chalkboard. I’m not the most artistic gal out there, but the ability to easily erase and remake things as much as I needed (ten times at least!) helped me to get things just right.

I absolutely adore the character this old door brings to our front porch space and I really think that sweet chalkboard is the perfect way to welcome guests to our home!
