By the time my kiddos are off to school and the house is picked up, laundry run, errands ran and emails answered, it seems like it’s already time to pick them back up. Just when homework is done it’s off to soccer, football and drama practice! By the time we all get home it’s past dinner time and everyone is “seriously starving, mom.” Enter Campbell’s Slow Cooker Sauces, (CSCS.) I’m playing along with the recipe “Playbook” generator this month (includes coupons, winning!) and will be making 3 more recipes but so far, I am seriously loving the ease of meal prep. We hope you love this Slow Cooker Apple Bourbon Pulled Pork as much as my family did!
With CSCS I can set my meat in my crock pot, add the sauce over top then go!
I don’t have to worry about the stove being on or my dinner burning but knowing my dinner is safely simmer whether I’m running around the house or town.
My 3rd oldest kiddo and I decided this week to try out the Apple Bourbon Pulled Pork sauce and add some fresh apples since he is so used to our apple slicer and didn’t know how to cut an apple. Since his homework was done I thought I could use this teaching opportunity for him to also help with meal prep. Since there was a knife involved, he was all over that idea! 😀
It was so fun to chat with him, tell jokes and laugh as we sliced the apple into chunks. Of course the main dish itself took less than a few minutes to unwrap from the deli counter and pour the sauce over but it was nice to have a little chef in training if you do find yourself with all the extra time that the crock pot takes off of your hands!
Between us, I am terrified of marinades so a packet of sauce that instantly flavors my meat is such a life (and time) saver! 😉
Slow Cooker Apple Bourbon Pulled Pork
- Boneless Pork Shoulder, (2 to 3 pounds)
- Apple Bourbon Pulled Pork Sauce
- 1 Large Apple, cut into chunks
- Slow Cooker
- Place pork into slow cooker. Pour sauce over pork.
- Cover and cook on low 7-8 hours or until pork is fork-tender, (or cook on high 3-4 hours).
- Shred pork and serve between buns with coleslaw.
- Optional: Top apple chunks over pulled pork to enhance the apple flavor.
It is the perfect barbecue flavor with a dash of apple and bourbon and a pinch of brown sugar, mmm! My husband was a huge fan of this sandwich and mentioned me making it at our next tailgate party. I couldn’t agree more! CSCS are fab for everyday meals, of course, but also weekend food… and I bet I could let my non-chef husband take the reigns with this meal since the process is so easy with just 2 ingredients that it would be just as moist and flavorful for he and his football buddies while they watch the big game!
