It’s been a year and a half since we completed the 1500 sq ft addition to our home. As grateful as we are to be back in the house, we have spent thousands working on it and are still thousands away from fully finishing it. Why is everything so expensive? Argh!

We’re doing as much as we can ourselves and thrifting where possible. But things like hiring drywall finishers and installing our gas line (plus permits) adds up quick! Here’s a kitchen update plus sources.

I love how it’s coming together but am stuck on a few things and would love to hear your feedback. I love a white kitchen but I’m all about color (especially pink!) so I’m dying to add more character.

I’m thinking I may add a colorful tile behind the range then flank the sides with a vertical shiplap. Splurge on a nice tile then install affordable shiplap ourselves. I love cozy cottages and really want our home to feel worn and lived in. I thin I’d continue the shiplap behind the kitchen sink and do that whole wall too. Whatcha think?

I think I’ll paint the island as well. Either a pretty sage green, coastal blue color or perhaps try the wood paint. Which one do you think would warm up the space?

I’m still not done with the final look as I want to customize the hood and add trim to the top or take it all the way to the ceiling but they’re good quality and affordable.

I added mixed brass hardware to the cabinets and am so happy with how they came together.

KITCHEN APPLIANCES

I’m so happy we went with white appliances. I’ve always loved white and feel like it’s classic.

We may end up wrapping the fridge in a matte white since my husband owns a film company but the gold handles on all the appliances are so stunning. I absolutely love them.

  1. Before you choose to a tile color and install, I would try colorful assessories first. You can change base colors at whim and maybe even with the seasons, if you wish. Your kitchen is beautiful.
