21 herringbone home decor ideas
I’m in love with herringbone. After I stenciled my herringbone bookcase, I wanted to find out exactly where the pattern came from. I’m obsessed with it right now. I read via yahoo that a herringbone pattern takes rectangular shapes and sets them in at 45 degree angles to one another to form zig zags. It originates from the bones of the herring fish, whose ribs form a very regular set of parallel diagonals to the backbone. So it looks like this:
(head) ////////////////// (tail)
(head) \\\\\\\\\ (tail)
Interesting, right?? It can be used to create a modern look which I typically shy away from. I love when it’s used with a distressed and worn feel, adore! Whether you love modern or vintage, herringbone is a pattern that is timeless and classic. I have a feeling it’ll be around for a long time. Here are 21 herringbone home decor ideas, loving them all.
