DIY Mushroom Table and Stools
DIY Mushroom Table + Stool Set (Using Walmart Planters 🍄)
If you’ve been around here for a minute, you know I’ll never pass up a quick, budget-friendly DIY. This little mushroom table + stool set started as simple planters (yep, from Walmart!) and turned into the cutest outdoor seating.
It’s fast, it’s easy and it’s one of those projects that makes people say, “wait… you MADE that?”

🍄 The Idea
I wanted a small table and a couple stools for extra seating outside. Something lightweight, affordable and a little whimsical. I grabbed:
- smaller planters → stools
- one larger planter → table base
- wood rounds → the “tops”
A little spray paint later and suddenly we have a full mushroom-inspired set that looks straight out of a boutique.

🛠️ Supplies
No complicated tools, no long supply list 🙌
Items you’ll need
Just a handful of things to make these table & stools!
✨ How to Make It
Keep reading for the step by step and/or watch the video below!
1. Prep your pieces
Give your planters and wood rounds a quick wipe so they’re clean and ready for paint. Lightly sand, if needed.
2. Spray paint
Spray light, even coats on the wood rounds. Let each coat dry before adding another. I did two coats for full coverage.
3. Adhere the mushroom “tops”
Once the rounds are fullly dry, liquid nail them onto the fipped over planter. Set heavy weight on top and let it dry for 24 hours.

4. Add your “mushroom” detail (optional but so cute)
If you want that classic mushroom look, use the bottom of a sponge or brush to dab on soft circles once your base color is dry.
5. Seal it
Once everything is fully dry, spray a clear sealer over all the pieces. This helps protect from weather + wear, especially if you’re using it outdoors.

🤍 Why I Love This Project
- This mushroom table tutorial is easily a weekend project
- Budget-friendly but looks custom
- Lightweight + easy to move around
- Works indoors or outdoors
- Adds the cutest little personality to a space
I’m using mine for extra seating outside but they’d be so cute inside in a playroom or bedroom, too!

🍄 Final Thoughts
This is one of those DIYs that proves you don’t need a ton of time or money to create something really special. A few planters, some paint and a little creativity and you’ve got yourself a whole set.
