I’m super excited about this quick DIY today, I love this easy hack: turn a toothbrush holder into a succulent planter! I was doing my weekend errand run while my husband was home doing yardwork with the kids. While shopping at Safeway, I decided to pick up the new Sunset issue while I was checking out and spotted this pretty porch on the cover. The next store I was at had a cute gold heart toothbrush holder so I decided to incorporate the pretty greenery from the magazine onto my own front porch.
On a daily basis, I get up before the rest of the house to log a couple miles in on the treadmill, get ready for the day, check emails, schedule my social media posts, wake the kids, make breakfast, double check their lunches to be sure they added a fruit and a veggie, host our morning devotional, drop the kids off at school. Then it’s jamming in all my work to-do’s while they’re learning so when they get home, I can assist with homework, put out any fires in their individual lives, prep dinner, kiss my husband hello, run the boys to football and the girls to soccer, and go to bed completely wiped out.
Me time is usually not a priority, much like most mamas these days. Even when we’re going to bed, we’re thinking about what didn’t get done that day and what we need to accomplish the next morning. It’s mentally exhausting, sometimes more than physically! Sheesh!
Gardening has become a way for me to unwind. I don’t bring my phone outside with me so I can think clearly as I mindlessly pull weeds, shape my bushes, plant new succulents and water the garden. My favorite outdoor activity is actually blowing the driveway off. It was one of my most dreaded chores as a kid but now I blow mine off daily because the noise drowns out everything else so I can have a little me time as I walk around my property.
I know “Me Time” is different for everyone. Some people prefer baths by candlelight or getting a massage or going for a run. I personally love a good pedicure with my favorite magazine and the occasional chit chat with the pedicurist. Sunset is one of my faves with all the home decor tips inside. Psst! There is something relaxing about flipping through the pages of a magazine instead of your phone. I have a few ripped out pages scattered in different rooms of the house for inspiration. Inspiration is everywhere, we loved Jen’s succulent so much, we had to recreate our own.
To make your own toothbrush holder turned succulent planter, find a cute holder like our gold and white version. Fill it 2″ full with small rocks (for draining purposes).
Add an inch of cactus soil then plant your succulent inside.
Water immediately, but once a week from then on.
