Yes you read that correctly: peel and stick shiplap! Stikwood is AMAZING and we love it in Reclaimed Weathered Wood White, so pretty and so fast to install for a full makeover in no time! Super fast to make quick cuts. We did our whole wall in one afternoon and can’t tell you enough how thrilled we are with it!!

We planked our master bedroom several years ago and still adore the look of it. We’ve been wanting to continue the look in the entryway but have been waiting on the new floors to go plus we had to take out the metal air conditioning ducts/raise the 7′ dropped ceiling to the rest of the house’s 8′ ceilings.

Old house problems! Needless to say, it’s in and we are LOVING it!

Decide on the pattern you prefer. You can install it traditionally like typical shiplap, making long rows or you can get as creative as you’d like. We chose to create an eclectic pattern across: short length, medium, long, short, medium, etc. We didn’t really have a rhymn or reason, we just made sure the seams didn’t line up when stacked. I started in the middle of the wall and followed a line of pencil with a level. Then I rolled over it to make sure it was nice and stuck to the wall.

How do you cut peel and stick shiplap?

Repeat, repeat, repeat. For the cuts at the end of the wall, I used a miter saw and didn’t have any problems with splitting. You can use a miter saw but we recently discovered Fiskars hand saw and it cuts like butter.

  1. Can I install a mantle THROUGH this stick and peel ship lap without it messing up? Will the mantle actually stay in the wall with no issues, since it won’t truly be flush? Thanks!

    1. Yes, use the longer screws and be 100% sure to screw THROUGH the peel ‘n stick shiplap to the stud and it’s sturdy! Mine is tight and secure against the wall 🙂
      Happy DIY’ing!

  2. So I have 2 questions, was it necessary to paint the wall or is there no gap, secondly do you think it would work on wall paper? Thank you for sharing.

    1. Hi Meridee! You don’t need to paint the wall, you won’t see behind it, the gaps are nice and tight. I think it would work over wallpaper, it’s super strong! I would see how strong your paper is, if it’s loose, consider taking off the first layer, at least. Good luck 🙂

  3. This is an amazing post, thank you! I was trying to figure out what to do with a room and this is a perfect idea. Will this also hold up in a bathroom that gets steamy? Your bed is beautiful, I’ve been looking for one like that. Where did you purchase?

    1. Hi! We’ve had it installed for over a year now and it’s held up great! At first some of the adhesive would leak, about a month. I would wipe it down and eventually it stopped leaking and we haven’t had any issues since. Plankwise is who we used but they seem to have switched to where you have to find a local seller. We found this similar product on Amazon https://rstyle.me/+f9CA_CCcJoFe5dAGexjfPw Hope that’s helpful 🙂

  4. Love the look thanks for sharing. How do you finish off the corners? Like at the end of the wall red turns the corner and that wall doesn’t have the shiplap? Thanks

    1. Hi Vicki! We left them raw. We intend to use a piece of quarter round to nail down the side of it but it’s still unfinished and gives it the rustic look 🙂

  5. We had granite countertop installed & no back splash. It is rough where they ripped off the old 3 in back splash. Will the peel & stick work there?

    1. Hi Erin! I would say (based on what it looked like before I removed 83128 staples from the maroon fabric) it was early 80’s or late 70’s maybe? I snagged it on a FB group sale site for a steal and refinished it 🙂

  11. Wouldnit be removable? We are in a rental and I would love it but might need to remove before we move out.

    1. Hi Jana, their site says: If you would like to remove Stikwood you need to pry it off. The adhesive will need to be removed from the work surface. Most of the time the surface Stikwood was removed from will require minor repairs. Hope that helps!! 🙂

  12. Holy Moly. Saw this on the DIY Mommy Link Party and soooooo glad I did! It’s on my birthday list now! Quick question. Do you think it has to be a completely smooth wall to stick and last or could we get away with installing on a slightly textured wall? Thanks ladies! Love it!

  13. Great post! Would you happen to have any advice or just a closer picture for the light switch? Do you think this would fare well over bathroom tile setting?

    1. It would do great!! Such a brilliant solution to avoid ripping out tile beforehand. You’ll have to push your outlet forward is all 😉
