How to install peel and stick shiplap. Love this easy real barnwood wall treatment. Such an easy farmhouse wall decor solution.
Yes you read that correctly: peel and stick shiplap! Stikwood is AMAZING and we love it in Reclaimed Weathered Wood White, so pretty and so fast to install for a full makeover in no time! Super fast to make quick cuts. We did our whole wall in one afternoon and can’t tell you enough how thrilled we are with it!!
We planked our master bedroom several years ago and still adore the look of it. We’ve been wanting to continue the look in the entryway but have been waiting on the new floors to go plus we had to take out the metal air conditioning ducts/raise the 7′ dropped ceiling to the rest of the house’s 8′ ceilings.
Old house problems! Needless to say, it’s in and we are LOVING it!
Peel and Stick Shiplap
Here’s the entryway before we installed the Stikwood. We had just finished raising our ceilings when we started the shiplap install.
Do you remember the yellow paint in here? We repainted this room “Moonshine” from Benjamin Moore, the same gray in Kristi’s house, I love it.
We didn’t touch up the wall paint behind the wall since it was being covered up with the reclaimed wood but we did wipe down the whole wall to prep it for the Stikwood install process.
Will peel and stick shiplap stick to textured walls?
We have textured walls and the Stikwood adhered to it with no problems.
How to install peel and stick shiplap
Here’s the process of how to install peel and stick shiplap, it’s so easy. Check out the Stikwood Installation video before you get started to get off on the right foot.
Unpack your Stikwood then let it sit for a day or two to acclimate to your home. The only tools you’ll need are a pencil, level, roller and saw.
Decide on the pattern you prefer. You can install it traditionally like typical shiplap, making long rows or you can get as creative as you’d like. We chose to create an eclectic pattern across: short length, medium, long, short, medium, etc. We didn’t really have a rhymn or reason, we just made sure the seams didn’t line up when stacked. I started in the middle of the wall and followed a line of pencil with a level. Then I rolled over it to make sure it was nice and stuck to the wall.
Continue on. This wall took a couple of hours due to stopping to measure and cut. Super fast!
How do you cut peel and stick shiplap?
Repeat, repeat, repeat. For the cuts at the end of the wall, I used a miter saw and didn’t have any problems with splitting. You can use a miter saw but we recently discovered Fiskars hand saw and it cuts like butter.
Peel and stick shiplap pattern
I loooooove the details of the reclaimed wood. It’s REAL reclaimed pine and the imperfections are my favorite.
Here’s the peel and stick shiplap entryway wall finished up.
We started putting the space back together and, as a result, love the contrast of the striped painted hallway.
Doesn’t the Stikwood look fantastic with our new transom windows? And with the pretty black pendants? Love it!
We’re still looking for the perfect front doors then we’ll finish the rest of the entryway off with the reclaimed wood. However, you can see a peek on the wall opposing the main entryway wall. (Ignore the half painted wall, that side of the house is undergoing a major renovation.)
Check out some more brilliant spaces made over with some Stikwood reclaimed wood planks. Brilliant product! BIG THANKS to Stikwood for providing the materials to make my dream entryway come true! ♡ PLEASE PIN so your friend’s can enjoy this too!
Will this work to cover paneling??
Hi there! I would contact Stikwood directly but have you tried painting the paneling? 🙂
Can I install a mantle THROUGH this stick and peel ship lap without it messing up? Will the mantle actually stay in the wall with no issues, since it won’t truly be flush? Thanks!
Yes, use the longer screws and be 100% sure to screw THROUGH the peel ‘n stick shiplap to the stud and it’s sturdy! Mine is tight and secure against the wall 🙂
Happy DIY’ing!
So I have 2 questions, was it necessary to paint the wall or is there no gap, secondly do you think it would work on wall paper? Thank you for sharing.
Hi Meridee! You don’t need to paint the wall, you won’t see behind it, the gaps are nice and tight. I think it would work over wallpaper, it’s super strong! I would see how strong your paper is, if it’s loose, consider taking off the first layer, at least. Good luck 🙂
Love this! Did you have to remove the baseboards?
Thanks, Rachel! We didn’t remove them, we just placed them up against them.
This is an amazing post, thank you! I was trying to figure out what to do with a room and this is a perfect idea. Will this also hold up in a bathroom that gets steamy? Your bed is beautiful, I’ve been looking for one like that. Where did you purchase?
Hi! We’ve had it installed for over a year now and it’s held up great! At first some of the adhesive would leak, about a month. I would wipe it down and eventually it stopped leaking and we haven’t had any issues since. Plankwise is who we used but they seem to have switched to where you have to find a local seller. We found this similar product on Amazon https://rstyle.me/+f9CA_CCcJoFe5dAGexjfPw Hope that’s helpful 🙂
Love the look thanks for sharing. How do you finish off the corners? Like at the end of the wall red turns the corner and that wall doesn’t have the shiplap? Thanks
Hi Vicki! We left them raw. We intend to use a piece of quarter round to nail down the side of it but it’s still unfinished and gives it the rustic look 🙂
We had granite countertop installed & no back splash. It is rough where they ripped off the old 3 in back splash. Will the peel & stick work there?
Hi Donna! Yes!! It would work wonderfully! Good luck!
Can the peel and stick shiplap be used as a backsplash in a kitchen?
Hi Jerrilyn! Absolutely!! It looks amazing in a kitchen! Happy sticking 🙂
Is this removable if living in an apartment.
Hi Marliyn. It will likely damage your walls when removed because the adhesive is so strong. I would recommend this easy to remove peel and stick shiplap wallpaper: http://bit.ly/2Mti5Um It’s more budget friendly as well.
What is the paint color used on your walls?
Hi Sarah! It’s called Moonshine Gray by Benjamin Moore 🙂
https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/color-overview/find-your-color/color/2140-60/moonshine?color=2140-60
can this be painted over? i was looking for plain white, not so much white wash. thanks!
Hi Deana! Yes, it’s real wood so you can! 🙂
What is the paint color of that gorgeous pink front door??? I’m in love!
Thank you! It’s Cupcake Pink from Behr Paint 🙂
Fabulous job, and I love that it’s light, and it’s easy to work with. Another great fact, it comes in colors. Thanks for sharing.
Is stikwood paintable?
It is! 🙂 It’s real wood.
Love your wall and your striped accent wall. What was the name of the stikwood color choice that you chose? I love this look and I must do it.
Thanks for asking, Ruth! It’s the reclaimed weathered wood white, so pretty! 🙂

Could you put it over a popcorn ceiling?
I’m not sure that would work, it needs a flat surface. If you scraped it first then wiped it down, it would definitely work!
Where can I purchase the peel and stick shiplap?
Hi Bill, visit Stikwood.com then select your product choices from there. Happy shopping!
This looks amazing! I didn’t know it was possible. Thank you for sharing the process!
It’s so easy to use, Kelly!! You’ll love it!
Hi! I am wondering about your church pew? Is it real or a replica? I absolutely love it!
Hi Erin! I would say (based on what it looked like before I removed 83128 staples from the maroon fabric) it was early 80’s or late 70’s maybe? I snagged it on a FB group sale site for a steal and refinished it 🙂
We have been adding pine to our walls in our mountain cabin fixer-upper…will have to check this out!
Thanks so much for sharing at AMAZE ME MONDAY!
Blessings,
Cindy
Wouldnit be removable? We are in a rental and I would love it but might need to remove before we move out.
Hi Jana, their site says: If you would like to remove Stikwood you need to pry it off. The adhesive will need to be removed from the work surface. Most of the time the surface Stikwood was removed from will require minor repairs. Hope that helps!! 🙂
LOVE this project! Looks beautiful! Where did you get your pillows that are sitting on your bench?
They’re a mishmash of BHG at Walmart, the white ones are from HomeGoods and the yellow are from Hobby Lobby.
It looks fabulous what a great product I must check if they ship to Ireland
Holy Moly. Saw this on the DIY Mommy Link Party and soooooo glad I did! It’s on my birthday list now! Quick question. Do you think it has to be a completely smooth wall to stick and last or could we get away with installing on a slightly textured wall? Thanks ladies! Love it!
Our walls are all textured and it worked great!! You’ll love it, Cindy!
Stunning makeovers and an amazing post with lots of pinnable inspiration! Thanks so much!
Thanks so much, Amber!
Great post! Would you happen to have any advice or just a closer picture for the light switch? Do you think this would fare well over bathroom tile setting?
It would do great!! Such a brilliant solution to avoid ripping out tile beforehand. You’ll have to push your outlet forward is all 😉
I love the new wall. I hope to do something like that one day. Where did you find the little entry way bench?
Thanks Zara! I found it on a Facebook deal site, it was a steal but I’ve seen them all over Craigslist! I refinished mine, it was a bright orange oak before! 😉
My husband wants to take down the stone wall in the family room and I’ve been against it; until now. If I can’t have my stone wall I want peel and stick shiplap. It looks great! Thank you for sharing with us this week at Celebrate Your Story and we hope you will join us again next week.
What an improvement it’s fantastic! Where do I go about buying this and how much $ should I prepare with?
Hi Johanna, I would budget about $1000-1200/wall. Check it out at Stikwood.com, they can give you a more accurate quote 🙂 We love how ours turned out!
Wow…I’ve never heard of such a thing! Looks great!
I would love for you to share this with my Facebook Group for recipes, crafts, tips, and tricks: https://www.facebook.com/groups/pluckyrecipescraftstips/
Thanks for joining Cooking and Crafting with J & J!
Thanks, Jess, so glad you like it!
Will it stick over wallpaper? Thx.
Hi Rebecca! It will!
This is amazing results!! Great job! Will it stick to wallpaper? Would love it on a wall in my dining room…like a feature wall! Has wallpaper on it. Thanks for sharing.
You’re welcome! It’ll definitely stick to that, go for it!!
Hi…I have a wall that has 12×12 tile on it from floor to ceiling. I really don’t want to try and remove it. Do you think the peel and stick shiplap would work on tile?
ABSOLUTELY, Karen!! Stikwood would be the PERFECT solution!! The adhesion is great and would adhere very well!
Where did you find this product? I cant seem to find peel and stick, I only find it in wallpaper and I dont want wall paper.
It’s on Amazon 🙂 https://amzn.to/2Gu4Xh7
