Hello, I’m Jes from My DIY Envy and I’m sharing a DIY project that was inspired by the sweet sisters of Lolly Jane. I was a long time reader before I became a contributor and one of my favorite projects was their antler stamped bookshelf. I’ve wanted antlers in my home ever since but I never found the right project. Instead of waiting for the right project to come to me I went ahead and created my own antler DIY. This DIY wooden antler frame was pretty easy to put together and I just love the way it turned out!
How to Make a DIY Wooden Antler Frame

A while back a friend contacted me about a special Christmas present. Our husbands, along with two other guys, grew up together and have been best friends since elementary school. As of last summer they are all married. They had this tradition of all of them holding up the groom at each wedding so the idea was to gather each of the pictures and hang them in this wooden frame. The frame was easy to make and not my own creation. There are many versions on Pinterest so find your favorite!
What you need:
- nail gun and nails
- 1/4 inch plywood
- scroll saw
- safety glasses
- wood glue
The frame was created with 2 – 1×6’s cut to 30 inches. Then we used the 1×2’s to frame it. I love how the white frame contrasts with the dark walnut stain. The pictures are hung with twine and clothes pins but you could also tack them on with decorative thumb tacks.
I made the antlers out of plywood on my scroll saw. I’m new to the scroll saw but I decided to just go for it. I printed off the antler shape that I wanted, cut them out, and taped them to the plywood. You could trace them too if you like but that was going to take more time and I’m not known for having patience… you do need patience with a scroll saw though!
Once I had them taped to this spare piece of plywood, I cut them down so I had a smaller piece to work with. Then slowly I began to make cuts. This isn’t the easiest shape to cut so it takes a couple of passes in different directions. Like I said, be patient and work slowly. Or you can find precut antlers or deer head like this one, or this one.
You can then use wood glue to mount them to your wooden frame. They are so light you could even use double sided tape if you wanted! I put them off to the side and kept the string to hang pictures on.
I only had room for two of the four photos I had on this frame previously. I guess I have to make another frame for the guys!
You can paint or stain the antlers if you prefer but I really liked the look of the raw wood.
I hope you like it! You might also like these tutorials on my blog:
