Occasionally we are challenged to use something from a store or shop and given the freedom to see what we can make with it. Well, our friends at The Wood Connection sent us a bunch of fun wooden banner shapes + pretty papers.
We ended up playing with them until an easy Tee Pee Sign was created using the banner shaped triangle + pretty Black Jack scrapbook papers and of course a few other things we had lying around in our craft stash.
To get started on this fun everyday home decor you’ll need:
- Triangle Banner
- Scrapbook Paper
- Toothpicks x3
- Bead board or wood, sized approx. 12″x8″
- Decoupage (or ModPodge)
- Foam brushes
- Gray, White paint
- Vinyl “i love my tribe” saying or hand write it on
- Bakers Twine (optional; I didn’t end up using it after all.)
Begin by tracing the banner shaped triangle onto the scrapbook paper, cut out. Paint your bead board or wood white.
Paint the sides of the banner as well as the middle towards the bottom. While it’s drying, cut a slit in the bottom of the paper about 1.5″ and fold sides over (see final picture for reference.) Decoupage the paper onto the banner shaped triangle when paint is no longer tacky.
Hot glue banner shaped triangle in the center of your wood. Cut toothpicks to 1″ or shorter and hot glue on the point of the triangle and viola! Your little tee pee is coming together. 🙂
Now the fun part- cut strips or shapes from coordinating papers and decoupage over the teepee to give it the Aztec look. Cute, right? Add the words “I Love My Tribe” to the bottom if you have a vinyl cutter OR freehand it and you’re all set.

It’s a fun little addition to my currently gallery wall and I am digging the muted tones with the colorful background!
We have tons of more handmade signs but this is our first time pairing it with a wood embellishment. So fun!
