Robin egg blue sleigh bed

My in-laws just flew into town so we’ve been in a mad rush to finish my oldest daughters bedroom for them to take over.  Main goal: Finish the bed. {I swear it took longer for our 8 year old to clean her bedroom than to create the bed! Sheesh!}

We finished in the knick of time and my 8 year old is loving her new robin egg blue sleigh bed:
Recognize that owl pillow from her recycled baby blanket? ;)

We snagged the headboard & footboard on Craig’s for $40.  It was so cheap because it didn’t include frame rails.  Arg!  Luckily I married my very own Handy Manny so he whipped something up until it was nice, sturdy & functional:
Yes, my husband is amazing!

Let’s see the before/after, shall we?
Aaah!
Much-o better!

The total cost for the headboard & footboard, wood to create the frame, paint and linens was around $90.  {We had the bottom white fitted sheet on hand and found the duvet cover/turquoise sheets at Target this week, both on sale- score!}

Overall, not a shabby price for a large queen sleigh bed:
PS: Does anyone else freak out when the in-laws are in town and go into Cinderella mode? lol

Linking up {here} this week :)

    I have that same bed (in a king) had it for 12 years. Still love it. I just ordered chalk paint in white to give her new life:) I'm digging the colors here, very shabby chic.

    great. can you tell me how you painted it? Thx

      lollyjane

      Hi Mark! Just hand painted it with a brush and Sherwin-Williams ‘Swimming’. Then I sealed it. Easy (:

        tracie

        you don’t have to strip or sand it? Just paint it right on?

        • 24

          Yes because I wanted the undertones to show through when I distressed it (:

        tracie b

        did you prime it or sand it first, or simply paint and seal it?
